ONLINE ESI REGISTRATION OVERVIEW
Government of India has started a scheme to provide monetary, medical and other benefits to the workers through ESI or Employee State Insurance which id administrated by an autonomous body i.e. EMPLOYEE STATE INSURANCE CORPORATION which works under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Labor and Employment. Any company having at least 10 or 20 employees needs to compulsorily employ ESI. For employees earning more than Rs. 21,000 per month along with basic allowances, ESI is deducted from their pay.

- Vocational rehabilitation training at VRS is provided to permanently physically challenged who have insured ESI
- In case of occupational injury or occupational hazards physical rehabilitation facility is provided to the employees
- Annual payment of Rs 120 for medical care benefit is provided to retiring ESI employees or for those who opt for VRS/ERS
- ESI insured members ailing from chronic diseases can apply or extended sickness benefit for 2 years , once the standard sick leave is expired or used
- Registered ESI members are allowed recuperating period of 7 days for vasectomy and 14 days for tubectomy from the date of medical procedures. They are also eligible for enhanced sickness benefits of 100% of their daily wages
ELIGIBILTY/ENTITIES COVERED UNDER ESIC REGISTRATION IN INDIA
All companies or entities are eligible for ESI registration when they fulfill the criteria of having the attenuated with their respective number of employees under the ESI Act of 1948. The entities covered are cinemas, shops, movie theatres, newspaper establishment, private educational institutions, medical institutions and roadside motor transport establishments. For hotels and restaurants, their main priority id to provide services rather than performing functions.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ESI REGISTRATION IN INDIA
- In some places the minimum numbers of employees are 10 or 20 as per their convenience respectively
- Establishments with registration under EPFO
- Employee with monthly salary of Rs. 21,000
- In industrial units with high chances of accidents, compulsorily needs to have ESI, specifically employees with less than Rs 21,000 per month.
- The contribution to ESI from the gross salary is 6.5% - divided between 4.75% by employer and 1.75% by the employee
